Minutes for Fitzwilliam Library Trustee Meeting
June 7, 2004
Present: Carolyn Edwards, Susan Massin, Rita Nirenberg, Joanne Kesses, El Quick, Paula Baldwin
The meeting began at 6:30 pm. Susan discussed the proposed Library Quilting project. She recently visited the Fitzwilliam Historical Society and had borrowed their Town quilt, which is in excellent condition and which turned out to be very similar to the planned new one. Presently the Historical Society is only prepared to loan the quilt to the library. Susan will get further clarification before the Trustees make a decision on whether to hang it the Meeting Room or not. Susan told the Committee that the Library Table that was loaned to the Historical Society, and which the Trustees planned to use now on the Upper Level, has had its lights removed. Susan will ask the electricians, who will be at the library this Wednesday, how practical it would be to remove and rewire them. There is a possibility as well
that the rather large table will not be able to fit down the stairs without its legs being removed. When the Trustees went upstairs they all were delighted with the display that Terry had assembled from the Historical Society’s collection.
The Trustees were unanimous in their dissatisfaction with the level of lighting on the Upper Level. Susan will speak with them and ask them to correct this before their bill is paid. The Trustees selected “blue” as the area rug color. Joanne will order two 15’x15’
area rugs from the Carpet Warehouse in Keene and have them deliver them to the library. The Trustees decided on where the newly matted and cleaned paintings were to be hung and El graciously agreed to hang them in their new locations. The trustees all noted with satisfaction that El had painted a portion of the stairwell wall greatly improving its appearance.
The trustees decided on black marbleized acrylic plaques with white lettering for the commemorative plaques and decided on the appropriate categories and listings. Although Robin Mara dropped by as invited to discuss details of the upcoming dedication, the Trustees decided that it was too late to make all the necessary decisions and agreed to hold another meeting to discuss the remaining issues. The next meeting will take place next Monday, June 14 at 6 p.m. before the Book Discussion Group meets. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Rita Nirenberg, Recording Sec’y
