BOARD MEETING MINUTES
November 4, 2009
Selectmen Present: Thomas Parker, Chmn. & Carmen Yon
Selectmen Absent: Susan Silverman
Mr. Parker opened the meeting at 7:00 Pm
PRIMARY:
7:15 MEET WITH CHESHIRE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND ADMINISTRATOR: John Wozmak, County Administrator,
Commissioners Tim Rogers, Roger Zerba and Jack Pratt, Chief Wayne Kassotis, Chief Sheats and Troy Selectmen Russell
Butler were in attendance.
Jack Wozmak stated that since the inception of the grant for the prosecutor position the county has asked towns if they wish
to join this program. This grant will expire in 2010, which will mean a shifting of expenses for towns that participate. There
are currently 12 towns participating and 11 not. They felt it would be useful to start a dialogue with towns with regard to what
they plan to do. The commissioners sent out a letter to towns that are currently participating.
Mr. Parker stated that Fitzwilliam hired our own prosecutor. The Chief is very happy with the service of our current
prosecutor. Chief Kassotis stated that our current prosecutor handles all of our ALS hearings in Concord as well as juvenile
cases, which the county prosecutor does not handle. Chief Kassotis stated that he previously worked for the Town of
Swanzey who had used the regional prosecutor. He feels that we get much more personalized service from our own
prosecutor.
Carmen Yon stated that his concern is that the townspeople of Fitzwilliam will end up having to pay through county taxes a
portion of other towns use of the county prosecutor. We chose to hire our own prosecutor and we pay for that through the
town legal budget.
Russell Butler stated that they are very happy with their own prosecutor, they get a very personalized service. He feels
there should be a fee basis for towns electing to join this program, not a county tax.
